To obtain, within the structure of Europan, two awards in the same edition for the quality of our work by two different juries, in different places and for different themes like Sankt Pölten and Azenha do Mar is the confirmation of the intellectual interest of our theoretical basis and its translation into specific projects for places and communities. In fact, two of the group members, Adriano Dessì and Silvia Mocci (together with Carlo Atzeni) were awarded in two previous editions, 1st prize in Europan 9 - in Carbonia (IT) and runner-up in Europan 10 - in Seilh (FR). In this edition of Europan, the group in its extended form wins for the first time, but is fed by the experience of other victories.

Is it the first time you have been awarded a prize at Europan? How could this help you in your professional career?Ġ4401 architects is a project and research group which combined over time complementary professional figures that share training and cultural approaches to the architecture project. The new sustainability towards which the project aims is an auto-poietic model, able to continuously maintain itself in a cyclical manner through recycling and reuse.Ħ. The project tries to provide a response to an environmental critical system through the definition of a supporting structure defined by water, which is conceptually wide-meshed, and able to embrace and manage different architectural forms in the future. Today –at the era of economic crisis and sustainability– the urban-architectural project should reconsider its production method in time how did you integrate this issue in your project?

The phases do not want to be a rigid pre-set land occupation system, but a flexible way to interpret the needs of future generations.ĥ. The system is double dynamic: it responds on the one hand to the fluctuations of the canal and on the other, to the habitat changes in its forms and uses.

The main theme of the project is the re-definition of an environmental system through a new urban model that develops in time phases, structured on water lines and basins, and on a new vision of public space that puts everyday life into direct contact with nature. How do you define the main issue of your project, and how did you answer on this session main topic: Adaptability through Self-Organization, Sharing and/or Project (Process)?
